Cement Types:
Portland Cements
Portland Cement is the most commonly used of the
three types of cement. It can be found in roughly five types. Each
type is unique in it's make up and application.
- Type I
- Type II
- Type III
- Type IV
- Type V
Blended Cements
Blended cements are best described as portland
cement with by-products added. Some of these by-products include
fly ash and granulated iron blast-furnace slag. As with basic portland
cement, blended cements are mixed in accordance to their use.
- Type IS Portland blast-furnace slag cement
- Type IP and Type P Portland-pozzolan cement
- Type S Slag Cement
- Type I (PM) Pozzolan-modified portland cement
- Type I (SM) Slag-modified portland cement
Expansive Cements
Expansive cements increases in volume when water is added to it.
Cracking is minimized when concrete is drying. It is best used in
pavements and flatwork. The three types of expansive cement are
indicated by the letters K.M. and S.
